Born November 5, 1941, Miyashita Susumu studied composition and Yamada-ryū koto and shamisen under Ikenouchi Tomojirō, Tanabe Hisao, Nakanoshima Kin’ichi, and his father, Miyashita Shūretsu. He graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts in 1964, graduated from the 9th class of the NHK Hōgaku Ikusei-kai, won the Minister of Education's Newcomer Award in 1968, and has received many other awards.
