Koizumi Reishi (Koizumi Kanae) was born in Hyōgo Prefecture, July 27, 1903. She studied Ikuta-ryū shamisen and koto under Nakata Seigin and Wada Motono, earning her teaching license in 1931. An active performer and teacher for more than 60 years, she received the Higashi-Ōsaka Cultural Merit Award in 1971, was a member of the Tōdō Ongaku-kai and president of the Sōkyoku Reishi-kai.
