Born in Yokohama, September 24, 1934, Sakamoto Akie (Sakamoto Akiko) studied Yamada-ryū shamisen and koto under Nishiyama Matsue. She received her Shihan (masters license) in 1953 and was a member of the Shōchō-kai.
