Sakai Michie (Sakai Teruko) was born in Yokohama, April 3, 1901. She studied Yamada-ryū shamisen and koto under Ochiai Mitōri (Yamato Manwa IV lineage), and received her teaching credentials in 1924. Affiliated with the Mitōri-kai, she was a performer and teacher for over 60 years.
