Sakai Gasui

Sakai Gasui (Sakai Toshiko) was born March 11, 1920. She studied Ikuta-ryū under Nakajima Utashito. She began teaching in 1949 and achieved Grand Master (Dai-Shihan) status in 1957. An active performer and teacher for more than 50 years, she belonged to the Seiha Hōgakukai, was head of the Gasui-kai, and a council member of the Nihon Sankyoku Kyōkai.
