Shigetate Ryūko (Anzai Ryu) was born in Fukushima City, May 7, 1912. She studied Ikuta-ryū shamisen and koto under Miyagi Michio and earned her teaching license in 1935. A member of the Fukushima Miyagi Association, she was also a director of the Miyagi Association, head of the Tohoku branch, and manager of the Fukushima Sankyoku Association. She received the Cultural Merit Award in 1968.
