Sumi Hatsue

Born in Yonago City, September 15, 1908, Sumi Hatsue (Sumi Torayo) studied Ikuta-ryū shamisen and koto under Takenami Kayoju, earning her teaching credentials in 1927. A performer and teacher for over 50 years, she was a member of the Kansai Musical Guidance Association and head of the Tokiwa-kai.
