Born in Fukuoka Prefecture, January 20, 1928, Tō Masashie (Tō Sumie) studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Kagawa Miyoko. She started teaching in 1951 and was affiliated with the Seiha Hōgaku-kai.
