Born in Tokushima Prefecture, January 18, 1908, Tokiwa Kazue (Tokiwa Sachiko) studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Kitani Toshie, earning her Shihan (masters license) in 1934. She was active as a teacher and performer for more than 50 years, during which she was head of the Chikusa-kai and a member of the Hatsune-kai.
