Born August 31, 1923, Tomita Gafū (Gaki Setsu) studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Murooka Gasen. She started teaching in 1950. She was head of the Kaede-kai, a member of the Seiha Hōgaku-kai, the Nihon Sankyoku Kyōkai, and a council member of the Ikuta-kai.
