Born November 27, 1898, Nakano Kikui (Nakano Kinue) studied Yamada-ryū koto and shamisen under Yokoyama Mitsukisei, Kiga Yoshijū, Imai Keishō, Miyagi Michio, and Abiko Shōhō, earning her Shihan (masters license) in 1919. She was the president of the Iwamizawa Kikuju-kai, a representative of the Sapporo Shinju-kai, and also affiliated with the Keifū-kai. During her more than 50 years as a performer and teacher, she received the Education Promotion Achievement Award.
