Born in Osaka Prefecture, April 30, 1896, Nakayama Kayo studied Ikuta-ryū shamisen and koto under Kawase Satoko and Funada Kiku. She began teaching in 1926 and belonged to the Kikune-kai. She was active as a performer and teacher for more than 50 years.
