Born June 3, 1906 in Kyoto Prefecture, Fujimoto Sumiyo studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Ikuyama Motoko and started teaching in 1928. During her 50+ years as a performer and teacher, she was head of the Yūbi-kai and belonged to the Mutsumi-kai.
