Born November 17, 1920, Matō Naomi studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Miura Sakiyo and Miyagi Michio, earning her teaching credentials in 1935. She was a councillor of the Miyagi Association and its Hokkaido branch. She was active as a performer and teacher for more than 40 years.
