Born February 24, 1916 in Hokkaido, Makio Misao studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Miyagi Michio. She became a teacher in 1940. During a career spanning more than 40 years, she was a councillor of the Tokyo Miyagi-kai and the Hokkaido Miyagi-kai, as well as Vice President of the Muroran Sankyoku Kyōkai.
