Honda Hatsui (Honda Etsuko) was born February 21, 1930 in Tokyo. She studied Yamada-ryū koto and shamisen under Kasagawa Inoboe (Kojima Shōzome lineage) and started teaching in 1946. Active as a teacher and performer for more than 40 years, she was head of the Hatsui-kai, and also affiliated with the Shōju-kai.
