Born August 17, 1889 in Tokushima Prefecture, Makino Shinaga (Makino Tō) studied Yamada-ryū koto and shamisen under Yamaki Senga IV. He started teaching in 1914, belonged to the Yamaki-kai, And was a councillor of the Nihon Sankyoku Kyōkai and the Yamada-ryū Kyōkai.
