Matsumoto Sumie was born October 30, 1933 in Chiba Prefecture. She studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Miyagi Shinzō and began teaching in 1958. She was a director of the Kinrei-kai and head of Kisarazu branch of the Kinrei-kai.
