Yamato Aiko (Sano Aiko) was born November 28, 1897 in Tokyo. She studied Yamada-ryū koto and shamisen under Nakanoshima Shōsen III, Yamato Shōwa IV, and Nakanoshima Kinichi IV. During her 60 years in Hōgaku she was a lecturer at Atomi Gakuen, head of Tokiwa-kai, and a member of the Nihon Sankyoku Kyōkai.
