Yamamoto Utaya (Yamamoto Sadako) was born October 29, 1932 in Ishikawa Prefecture. She studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Tsuriya Utafusa (Nakajima Utashito lineage) and received her teaching certification in 1956. She belonged to the Seiha Hōgaku-kai.
