Born May 2, 1912 in Tokyo, Sudō Ikun (Sudō Kaoru) studied Yamada-ryū koto and shamisen under Imai Keishō, Nakanoshima Kin’ichi, and Nakanoshima Keiko. She started teaching in Tokyo in 1935 and Osaka in 1951. During a career spanning more than 50 years, she was head of the Kaoru-kai and advisor to the Nihon Sankyoku Kyōkai.
