Born November 17, 1937 in Kanagawa Prefecture, Wagatsuma Utaryū (Wagatsuma Yasuko) studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Nakajima Utashito. She started teaching in 1941. She was head of the Ikuta-ryū Shō-ha Shiori-kai and a member of the Shō-ha Hōgaku-kai Foundation.
