Watanabe Sonomichi (Watanabe Yōko) was born December 13, 1938 in Saitama Prefecture. She studied Yamada-ryū koto and shamisen under Satō Sonoetsu (Yamakawa Enshō lineage) and began teaching in 1962. She belonged to the Shunwa-kai and Nazuna-kai.
