A graduate of the Tokyo Jikei University School of Medicine, Doctor Ishikawa Yazan (Ishikawa Hiroo) was born March 11, 1923. He studied Tozan-ryū shakuhachi under Yoshikawa Ryōkuzan (a student of Maruyama Kenzan), attaining the rank of Dai-Shihan and the title Chikurin-ken. He served as a member of the Tozan-ryū Gaku-kai Council and a member of the Jun-Shihan Examination Committee.
