Born July 31, 1907 in Hiroshima Prefecture, Ueda Shūhō (Ueda Shūichi) studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Ōyabu Shūrei. He was an advisor to the Osaka Tamagawa-sha and was active as a teacher and performer for more than 50 years.
