Born April 15, 1910 in Fukushima Prefecture, Kashiwagi Sōzan (Kashiwagi Takeshi) studied Tozan-ryū shakuhachi under Mikane Shōzan. He started teaching in 1954. He belonged to the Tozan-ryū Kanto branch and was a performer and teacher for almost 50 years.
