Gotō Meitetsu (Gotō Masahiko) was born August 13th, 1924 in Yamaguchi Prefecture. He studied Ueda-ryū shakuhachi under Kawachiyama Kazuaki and began teaching in 1955. He was a member of the Yamaguchi Prefecture Ueda-ryū Executive Committee as well as the head of the Chikumei-kai.
