Sano Yōdō (Sano Kitao) was born on December 10, 1899 in Shizuoka Prefecture. He studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Tomioka Kidō, Katō Yūdō, and Hirokado Reifū. During a career that spanned over 50 years, he was a director of the Student Shakuhachi Federation and a Professor at Yayoi-kai, Tokyo Dental University. He belonged to the Tofū-kai and served as a counselor for the Japan Tomei Sankyoku-kai.
