Satō Suiho (Satō Katsumi) was born June 17, 1931 in Fukuoka Prefecture. He studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Yokoyama Ranpo and started teaching in 1959. He belonged to the Ranpo-sha, the Shizuoka Sankyoku Federation, the Tokai Honkyoku Federation, the Hamamatsu Sankyoku Kyōkai, and the Kyoto Fuke-shū Meian Kyōkai.
