With a career in the shakuhachi world spanning more than 50 years, Shimokawa Rōdō (Shimokawa Tanekichi) was born April 5, 1903 in Fukuoka Prefecture. He studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Nawa Keidō and belonged to the Wafū-kai.
