Born on January 27, 1899 in Chiba Prefecture, Takagi Kyokudō (Takagi Yūkichi) studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Oshimoto Kinsan and Kawase Junsuke I. He started teaching in 1930. He belonged to Chikuyu-sha and was the head of the Chikudō-kai as well as a counselor of the Japan Sankyoku Association. His career in shakuhachi spanned more than 50 years.
