Born on May 18, 1906 in Kagawa Prefecture, Toyozawa Hōdō (Toyozawa Katsutoshi) studied Ueda-ryū shakuhachi under Ueda Chokudō. During his 50-year career he was promoted to Dai-shihan in 1950 and was Chairman of the Ueda-ryu Kobe Executive Committee.
