Born on July 17, 1906 in Sakai City, Nishimaki Tekishū (Nishimaki Shinko) studied Meian-ryū shakuhachi under Ōyabu Shūrei of the Kinko-ryū school and Sakurai Muteki of the Meian-ryū school. He was a member of the Muteki-kai, a classical shakuhachi study group.
