Born October 17, 1925 in Tokyo, Hirano Kidō (Hirano Ryōichi) studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Kimura Yūsai (Kinko-ryū Araki lineage). He started teaching in 1955. He belonged to the Chikusen-kai and was a counselor of the Japan Sankyoku Association.
