Koie Jōzan (Koie Tōru) was born December 2, 1933 in Tokyo. He studied Tozan-ryū shakuhachi under Isono Chazan and received his instructors license in 1961. He belonged to the Tozan-ryū Chasei-kai and was a councilor of the Nihon Sankyoku-kai.
