Born June 6, 1907 in Fujisawa City, Sakagami Sosei (Sakagami Yūichi) studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Tanaka Jodō. He started teaching in 1941. He was the head of the Sosei-kai, a member of the Jodō-kai, and chairman of the Kanagawa Prefecture Chikuyū-renmei.
