Born in Utsunomiya City, April 10, 1939, Sakamoto Kuniko (Edo Kuniko) studied Ikuta-ryū shamisen and koto under Sakamoto Tsutomu. She graduated from the NHK Hōgaku Development Training classes, received her teaching credentials in 1963, and was affiliated with the Gyokuko-kai.
