Born September 11, 1921, Yamaguchi Eiko studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Miyagi Michio. She began teaching in 1947, and was a lecturer at the Railway Hospital and Tokyo Electric Power Company. She was a member of the Miyagi-kai Kanto District Council and the Nihon Sankyoku Kyōkai Council. She was an active performer and teacher for over 40 years.
