Kojima Somei (Kojima Satoko) was born in Yamagata Prefecture, November 2, 1911. She studied Yamada-ryū shamisen and koto under Imai Keishō, earning her teaching credentials in 1935. Active as a performer and teacher for more than 40 years, she was the head of the Shōju-kai, and a council member of both the Nihon Sankyoku Kyōkai and Yamada-ryū Kyōkai.
