Born in Shiga Prefecture, May 7, 1904, Tateshiro Mamoru (Nishizawa Kitaro) studied Ikuta-ryū koto under Noboru Tateyama. He began teaching in 1921. Active as a performer and teacher for more than 50 years, he served as chairman of the Koto Music Association and as a director of the Osaka Sankyoku Association.
