Born September 9, 1929 in Tokyo, Fukuda Tanehiko studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Fukuda Eika and Miyagi Michio, earning his Shihan (master teachers license) in 1944. He was head of the Mitsunooto-kai, a counselor of the Nihon Sankyoku Kyōkai, and a director of the Ikuta-kai.
