Toji Kaido Perlman was granted Shihan (Master) by Yodo Kurahashi II of the Mujuan Dojo in Kyoto, Japan. He lives, plays, and teaches in Portland Maine. He regularly visits Kyoto to study with Yodo Sensei and recently performed in the 50th Year commemoration of Mujuan. Toji’s style is largely influenced by the Jin Nyodo lineage, which plays Honkyoku from many different temples in the style that is appropriate for that temple or region and era. We also play Kinko-ryu pieces, Sankyoku (ensemble), Jiuta and Minyo. If you have any questions or want to study shakuhachi please reach out.
