Takano Kayo was born October 10, 1889. She studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Ono Yuki, Hashimoto Zansei, Takemori Sue, and Takemori Sasao. She began teaching in 1923, and was active as both a teacher and performer for more than 50 years.
