Born August 5, 1906 in Hyogo Prefecture, Usui Chikai (Usui Misako) studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under Yonekawa Kin’ō (Chikatoshi I). She started teaching in 1930. With a career spanning more than 60 years, she was head of the Kobe Kensō-kai, and a council member of the Nihon Sankyoku-kai.
