Born January 19, 1946, Miyashita Tazuko studied Yamada-ryū koto and shamisen under her father, Miyashita Shūretsu. She graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts, and was Vice President of Shurei-sha Shisen-kai. She won first place in the Tokyo Shimbun Hōgaku Competition, the Ataka Prize in 1968, the Minister of Education Newcomer Award in 1972, as well as the NHK Hōgaku Development Association Excellence Award.
