Born in Tokyo, June 11, 1950, Tomiyama Seikin II (Hatta Kiyotaka) studied Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen under his father, Tomiyama Seikin I, first taking the professional name Tomiyama Kiyotaka upon receiving his teaching credentials. He entered Tokyo University of the Arts in 1969. He succeeded to the name Tomiyama Seikin II when his father retired in 2000, and is head of the Sei-on-kai. An award-winning performer, teacher, and recording artist for over 70 years, in 2009 he was designated as a Holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure) for his achievements in the transmission of the Jiuta and Sōkyoku traditions. From June 2017 to June 2021, he was the chairman of the Japan Sankyoku Association. -Major awards- 1986.1989.1991 Agency for Cultural Affairs Art Festival Award. 2004 Japan Art Academy Prize. 2006 Matsuo Performing Arts Award Excellence Award. 2011 Medal with Purple Ribbon. 2018 French Arts and Culture Medal Chevalier Award.
