Born February 18, 1917 in Ehime Prefecture, Kikufuji Eishū (Ikeuchi Toshiko) studied Ikuta-ryū shamisen and koto under Kikuhama Kiei. She received her Shihan (masters license) in 1947 and was awarded the title of ŌKōtō in 1951. She was a member of the Tōdō Ongaku-kai, head of the Kikufuji-kai, and had more than 50 years of experience as a performer and teacher.
