Born in Ueda City, Nagano Prefecture, March 31, 1915, Kikuyū Masako (Shirai Masako) studied Ikuta-ryū shamisen and koto under Kikuta Utao II. She started teaching in 1960 and was a member of the Tōdō Ongaku-kai and the Kinkiku-kai.
