Born in Kyōto, September 25, 1949, Kumeda Akiko studied Ikuta-ryū shamisen and koto under Fukumori Toshiko. Winner of the Excellence Award at the 13th National Koto Competition, she was a member of the Kyōto Eiraku-kai.
