Satō Emiko was born in Kyoto, June 16, 1948. She studied Ikuta-ryū shamisen and koto under Fukumori Toshiko and began her teaching career in 1967. A member of the Kyoto Eiraku-kai, she won the Grand Prize at the 13th National Koto Competition.
